Project awarded!
We are pleased to announce that the project “Rear concentrator photovoltaic bifacial module for agrivoltaics” has been awarded to us (Main Researchers Dr. Eduardo F. Fernández and Dr. Florencia Almonacid Cruz). This project was submitted for the call “Proyectos Estratégicos Orientados a la Transición Ecológica y a la Transición Digital” 2021, within the Plan Estatal de Investigación Científica y Técnica y de Innovación 2021-2023, and funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation and the Agencia Estatal de Investigación- AEI. (https://www.aei.gob.es/convocatorias/buscador-convocatorias/proyectos-estrategicos-orientados-transicion-ecologica). These grants aim to promote R&D&I activities in order to increase the competitiveness and international leadership of Spanish science and technology through the generation of scientific knowledge, by means of quality research oriented to the ecological transition and the digital transition.
The RearCPVbif project aims to develop a novel high transparency photovoltaic technology specially adapted to agrivoltaics (APV). APV has emerged as one of the most promising solutions to alleviate land use competition between energy and food production and to increase land use efficiency by combining PV power generation and agricultural activities on the same land. Despite its potential, APV is still in a learning phase and significant efforts are needed to develop PV technologies specially adapted to agricultural applications.
RearCPVbif is based on a new configuration consisting of low power back concentrators and bifacial solar cells to increase the relative efficiency of current technology by 150%-200%, improve the quality of light hitting plants, thermal performance and reduce cost.
We will show the progress achieved!
