This week the new UJA Research and Transfer Laboratories building was inaugurated. Among those attending the ceremony were Dr. Eduardo F. Fernández and Dr. Pedro Perez Higueras.
This building has 22 research laboratories, and in one of them, our group will establish a new laboratory dedicated to the fabrication of PV devices. This will allow reinforcing the research area on the development of state-of-the-art photovoltaic cells for different applications that is developed in AdPVTech, with the implementation of a laboratory that allows processing various semiconductor materials, e.g., III-V, II-VI, with high precision. Specifically, the fundamental system is based on a reactor for growing materials using the so-called Molecular-beam epitaxy (MBE) technique.
In addition to this system, the laboratory will also be equipped with other systems for post-processing of semiconductor materials and device development, such as additional layer deposition systems, as well as other systems for adding metal contacts and soldering.
These new acquisitions will significantly enhance the capabilities of our research group and the University of Jaén, allowing us to improve our research efforts and competitiveness in order to obtain more relevant scientific results and maximize the attraction of external research funds.
